Pick Plectrum
Strumming on an acoustic guitar with a pick.?
I’m playing Viva La Vida tomorrow in front of an audience. I have a problem with the strumming / playing with a plectrum. It feels like i strum too hard,like at any second the strings could just snap. I’ve tried playing slower and not so hard but there still seems to be a problem.
I mean it’s like my pick gets stuck at some points and then i’m scared that the string will snap. I really don’t want this to happen. Could it be that i am just playing with the pick wrong? I’ve watched a couple of videos of how to hold the pick,but i mean if this happens then i HAVE to be doing something wrong..How am i supposed to strum with the pick,is there some certain way of playing with it that i’m not getting ? Thanks for any help ! =)
Not sure about guage, It’s my sisters pick so i don’t really know…it is pretty thin so I guess it would be medium/thin.
Possibly. I’d have to see how you are doing it to tell you for sure. Here are somethings you can try. I play bass, guitar and mandolin. I learned to use the shoulder (edge of the pick) as opposed to the point on the mando and it worked good. Try holding it sideways and use the shoulder (back corner) for starters. You didn’t say what guage of pick you are using. Try a heavier or lighter gauage and see how that goes. If you are using heavy, go to medium. If medium, try thin. The pick may not be heavy (thick) enough for your style either. Try some of these variables and see if it makes a difference for you. Good luck.
