Cord Cable
Can there be a cable cord coming out of the wall without cable (cable has been paid for)?
I’m renting a home, and there are cable cords coming out of the room in the bedroom and the living room. I’ve set up cable in the living room just find, but when I try to hook it up in the bedroom, my TV tells me it is an “unusable signal.” Is it possible the cord in the bedroom is broken? How can I fix it?
There are two likely possibilities:
1) the cable service to the house is what I’ll call singular — a cable from outside connects to the house and a splitter sends the signal to all cable jacks in the house. in this case, perhaps the cord in the bedroom has a problem. but a visual examination of the cable in the bedroom is usually sufficient to tell if that is likely.
2) there is a splitter outside the house which only the cable company has access to in which case you’ll need them to connect service for the bedroom. if this is the case, you should have had them do it the first time they were there. however, they may (but possibly may not) want to charge you more in your monthly bill for having two connections. in any case, they will almost certainly charge you for a 2nd visit to connect the additional service.
you could just use your own splitter inside the house.
