Today I bought an electric guitar (don’t have an amp yet, cause I’m poor) and I was wondering if the cord that hooks the guitar up to the amp comes with the guitar or the amp. Also what’s the cord called so I don’t sound like an idiot when refering to it.

Well, I guess it’s supposed to come with the guitar. I just buy one whenever I need one. The cord is called a 1/4 inch instrument cable, technically, but everyone knows what you’re talking about.
